Pink eye is a common ailment which real name is conjunctivitis.  The conjunctiva is a thin membrane that covers the white part of the eye ball.  When the conjunctiva gets inflamed it turns red and thus is called pink eye.  Pink eye can come in many forms.  The most common forms are viral pink eye, bacterial pink eye and allergic pink eye.Viral pink eye is very common and is characterized by watering eyes and light discharge in one eye. 
Bacterial pink eye is similar to viral pink eye in the exception that there is heavy discharge.  Allergen pink eye causes both eyes to be pink or red with tearing, no discharge and sometimes affecting the nose.Infectious pink eye can spread like a wildfire to those around you. Since so many people get this disease, it is no wonder that so many people want an effective home remedy for pink eye. There are a number of simple techniques to get rid of this condition.



Causes

Irritating, painful and pink eyes are the symptoms of conjunctivitis. Conjunctivitis is an eye disease that may arise due to the following reasons.

1 Certain types of conjunctivitis infection are caused by virus.

2 Conjunctivitis may also develop due to the body's reaction to allergic substances called allergens.


3 Bacteria may also be responsible for pink eyes. The infection cause by bacteria heals very fast and causes lesser irritation.

4 Vitamin deficiency due to unbalanced diet.

5 Over usage of contact lenses

6 Intrusion of foreign substance into the eyes

7 Sun burns

Natural treatment for pink eye can also be used. Some people say this is the best kind of method.

1. Try boiling the seeds of fennel and use it in to wash your face. The water should get into contact with your conjunctiva to reduce the inflammation and the redness.

2. Put warm milk compresses on the affected part. This should reduce the inflammation and the redness.

3. Try slicing raw potato and put it on the affected area. This is a natural astringent so it can help reduce inflammation.

4. You can soak cotton with the juice of Aloe Vera and apply it on the affected are. Alternately, you can also use it as eyewash.

5. Try mixing 2 teaspoon of the powder of turmeric to a cup of hot water. Let it cool down for a bit and use it as a warm compress.
